Draft Onondaga Lake Capping and Dredge Area and Depth Initial Design Submittal

The draft Onondaga Lake Capping and Dredge Area Initial Design (dated December 2009) has been submitted by Honeywell and reviewed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This document provides initial design information on the capping and dredging components of the Onondaga Lake remedy. It shows some detail on where the lake will be dredged and capped as long as an overview of the capping procedure for Wastebed 13. There is also some information regarding the retaining walls being placed along 690. The dreding project is intended to begin in May 2012.

They are looking for participation in community health and safety plans relevant to capping and dredging activities will include:
• Site Security & Community Health and Safety Plan
• Traffic Management Plan
• Navigational Protection
• Noise Abatement Plan.

19th Camillus Memorial Day Run.

FleetFeet is holding the 19th Camillus Memorial Day Run. Start time is 9:28 on May 31st, Village of Camillus, 1st block west of West Genesee Street and Newport Road. This is an opportunity to run the same route the 1996 Olympic Torch followed on the way to Atlanta and then be greeted by the 15,000 or so parade spectators as you finish. Preregistration is $10 and $15 the day of the event.

Camillus Memorial Day Parade and Events.

There will be a Memorial Day Ceremony Monday May 31st at the Municipal Building at 8am in from of the Veterans Memorial (Turner Ave. side)

The Parade will start a 9:30 on Main Street in the village.

1pm American Legion/VFW Ceremony at The Gillie Lake Veterans Memorial Park (Sands Road Entrance)

The village is also holding a carnival at Munro Park Friday May 29th through Monday May 31st. Ride tickets are available at the Village hall, Library and participating businesses.

Camillus Farmer’s Market is now open and held every Friday on the front lawn of the Camillus Municipal Building.

You can find locally grown plants, hanging baskets, container gardens, shrubs, flowers, vegetables, fruits, berries, herbs, baked goods and eggs, as well as handmade crafts & jewelry and more. Trust us, the pies alone are worth the trip.

Fairmount Elementary Reunion July 30

What began as an experiment to reconnect with former classmates has grown into an organized reunion of Fairmount Elementary School, which became the Camillus Municipal Building in 1981.
Robin Shope said she has always had a fondness for her memories of Fairmount Elementary, but could not find any information on her old school on the Internet.
“That is when I decided to create a Facebook page and see what, if any, interest it might generate,” Shope said.

West Genesee School budget passed.

The 2010-11 West Genesee School budget for $69,938,455 was approved with 2,037 votes for and , and 728 against. Also, The proposition to purchase school buses passed 1,805 votes to 943 votes.

Beach Days for Breast Cancer on Saturday, June 26 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The Carol Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of C.N.Y., Inc. presents it’s annual family event Beach Days for Breast Cancer on Saturday, June 26 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park at Gillie Lake.

This event features food, games, inflatable children’s rides, raffles, a classic car show and “Cruisin For Carol“, a one and a half hour ride for participants at Gillie Lake from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Please call 672-5288 for more information.

Low cost/no cost mammograms, sponsored by Cancer Services Program Partnership of Onondaga County will be available at St. Joseph’s Imaging at Medical Center West, 5700 West Genesee Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on June 27. Call 435-3653 to schedule an appointment.

The event will be followed by the Town’s 4th of July Celebration, featuring a concert by the “The Billionaires” and fireworks sponsored by MajorGeeks.com and IdlePaws.
