Who is Contributing to Your Representative?

Given the season, this link seemed topical. It is a site that tracks political contributions of elected officials. For example here is a link to Dan Maffie’s page. Clearly he is in vogue with lawyers and out of favor with the Healthcare Professions.

In this case, not that surprising, but a good resource to know who a candidate is beholden to.

Camillus Police see another round of phony sweepstakes fraud.

The Camillus Police Department is seeing another round of phony sweepstakes winner fraud. The fraud is coming from P&S Services INC. The Fraud basically says you have won sweepstakes’ money and need to deposit an enclosed check into your checking account and then wire money using Western Union. If you or a family member receives a letter like this DO NOT deposit the check into your account, simply throw out the letter.

If you feel that you have won a legitimate sweepstakes or another mail in prize, contact your local police for assistance in an attempt to verify the claim.

The History of Camillus.

Stumbled on a page, written in 1998 by Sue Goodfellow, chronicling the history of the town of Camillus. Found it worth passing on.

Isaac Lindsay built the first frame house in 1795. He opened the first tavern in 1793. In 1798 James Geddes moved from the salt works to Fairmount, where his son George Geddes, also lived. Both were eminent men. The Munros came later, David Munro settling on Lot 80 in 1808. He was postmaster of Camillus from 1811 to 1824, being succeeded by James R. Lawrence, afterward a leading lawyer. His daughter used to tell how the village goat entered the church one summer morning, and mounted the pulpit stairs while the parson was preaching on the sheep and goats Whether he had outside guidance did not appear

Camillus OK’d to kill Gillie Lake Geese.

The goose droppings have been piling up at Gilly Lake for a long time. After sorting through several options throughout the year, Camillus Parks and Recreation Director Eric Bacon decided on one that may not sound pretty, but could work at a reasonable price.

Bacon received a permit Monday from the U.S. Bureau of Fish and Wildlife to kill no more than two geese a day, and no more than 20 geese total. He met with the Camillus Town Board that same day and they decided to go ahead with the plan.

Camillus Police Press Release.

The Camillus Police is inviting the community to participate in a special event!

Join us for a fundraising event at Applebees located at 5241 W Gennesee St Camillus, on 9-16-10 from 5pm to 8pm.

On Thursday, September 16, 2010 law enforcement officers and local officials will take their oath to “serve” and protect to a new level, trading in their handcuffs and badges for menus and serving trays to assist servers at the Applebee’s across Central New York! Donations will benefit Special Olympics New York and the Law Enforcement Torch Run®. The Torch Run is part of a year-round, grassroots fundraising campaign by law enforcement agencies to benefit their local Special Olympics Program. New York State Police, Camillus Police Department, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department and Auburn Correctional, among others, will be participating in this unique fundraising event.

Law Enforcement will be on hand at 6 Applebee’s across Central New York and will be greeting customers and helping out the wait staff. Law Enforcement will be in action at more than 30 Applebee’s locations statewide in hopes to raise thousands of dollars for the athletes of Special Olympics New York.

Special Olympics is an international year-round program of sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. More than 48,761 athletes in New York train and compete in 22 Olympic-type summer and winter sports. There are thousands of athletes from the Central New York area who participate in training clubs and competitions throughout the year. Special Olympics provides people with intellectual disabilities continuing opportunities to develop fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy as they participate in the sharing of gifts and friendship with other athletes, their families and the community. There is no cost to participate in Special Olympics.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics is the largest grassroots fund-raising and public-awareness vehicle for Special Olympics in the world. Each year officers carry the Flame of Hope through the streets of their hometowns and deliver it to their local, state, or national Special Olympics Games.

In 2009, more than $1 million was raised for the athletes of Special Olympics New York through the Law Enforcement Torch Run initiative.
