Buerkle apparent winner in 25th Congressional District.

Wait – Didn’t Dan Maffei claim victory election night?

s expected, Buerkle added to her lead, receiving 790 votes from the Wayne County ballots. Maffei received 521 votes.
While Abigail Gardner, a spokeswoman for Maffei, said the campaign would have no comment on Sunday, Buerkle’s campaign issued a statement saying they will let the process play out before declaring victory.
“We are pleased with the numbers released by Wayne County today. There is another court hearing set for Tuesday morning, and we will wait to hear Judge DeJoseph’s determination now that all absentee ballots in New York’s 25th Congressional District have been counted.
While we remain confident that Ann Marie Buerkle will emerge the victor, we need to allow the process to proceed as set forth in the original court proceedings initiated by the Maffei campaign.”

More than half of Onondaga County residents will see taxes rise

After taking all the sales tax money away from the towns this summer forcing a school tax hike of over 2%, now this. According to esitmates from our town hall we can expect our property tax to increase from $ 3.80 per thousand to $4.40 – $4.50 per thousand PLUS the school tax increase.

Our local budget is due in this week. From notes we have read, they intend to cut services, like leaf pick, up in order to fund things like a Parks and Rec Master Plan review (to the tune of 12 grand) Anyone else getting fed up?

After weeks of politics and procedure, Onondaga County lawmakers are finally finished with the 2011 budget. More than half of the County’s residents will see a tax bill increase but others will see a decrease.

Thursday was the first time even seasoned legislators and county officials could remember a meeting to override budget vetoes. It was complete with intense debates, but in the end only three of County Executive Joanie Mahoney’s eleven vetoes were overridden.

“I think it’s a travesty,” said Republican 14th District Legislator Casey Jordan, “I think today was a dark day in County history with these types of tax increases and I guess I’m really disappointed in what happened today.”
