We didnt know Ann Marie owned some Camillus land too.
“I’ve spent the past several weeks suffering from the negative ads of my opponent,” Buerkle said at a press conference in front of a small shopping center she owns in the Syracuse suburbe of Camillus. “[Maffei] has made these allegations that I am delinquent in my taxes, instead of stating the truth, which is that we have a payment plan for the tenants who are in this plaza.”
Buerkle said she has been energized by grassroots support for her campaign and by endorsements from some prominent Republicans, including 2008 vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, who also is a potential 2012 presidential candidate, and Mitt Romney, former Governor of Massachusetts and 2008 presidential contender.
Given the season, this link seemed topical. It is a site that tracks political contributions of elected officials. For example here is a link to Dan Maffie’s page. Clearly he is in vogue with lawyers and out of favor with the Healthcare Professions.
In this case, not that surprising, but a good resource to know who a candidate is beholden to. http://www.opensecrets.org
Camillus has become the first village in Onondaga County to switch its local elections from March to November, effective next year.
The village board voted earlier this month to make the change. Mayor Michael Montero said the change means village offices normally up for election in March 2011 will have their term of office extended and be on the ballot in November of next year. Officials elected that November will take office on Jan. 1.

I do have to agree with Jim Walsh’s concerns about the towns around the lake — Camillus, Geddes and Salina — needing to be involved as well in some way. Some people in Camillus, who live around the portentiously named Wastebed 13, still think everything stinks.
It is hard not to agree that bringing the Onondaga Nation to the table is a good thing, yet leaving the towns that have to deal with the problem out of the decision making process is a questionable idea, at best.
• Payments to 23 school districts would decrease 50 percent in the first year to $8 million. Payments would decrease to $4 million the second year. In year six, payments to schools would be cut again to $2 million.
Payments to 19 suburban towns and 15 villages would decrease 66 percent in the first year to about $24 million. In the second year, the payments would decrease to $7 million. After that, towns and villages would receive no sales tax money.
As the County Legislature is gears up to vote on Chairman James Rhinehart’s proposal to eliminate any revenues from sales taxes collected in Onondaga County from being passed down to towns, villages and school districts, local governments say it will hurt edjucation and more.
Officials from Spafford, Skaneateles, Camillis, and Marcellus banded together Monday to talk about what they believe will happen to towns, villages, and school districts if they don’t receive sales tax revenue from the county.
Skaneateles Town Supervisor Terri Roney said, “Towns will see an increase in tax bills if the county doesn’t share anything with towns and villages. There is no way around it.”
They say cuts will make their way to the schools. “They’ll be faced with cuts with the music, arts, athletics, all the nicety things for the kids that help mold each and every student.” said Skaneateles school board member Mike Card.

Rick Hevier, of Camillus, is tired of hearing people say his town is about to become a toxic waste, and tonight he accused town Councilors David Phlippone, Mark Kolinski and Richard Griffo of using the controversy over where to bury contaminated sediment from Onondaga Lake for political gain.
“If what was being prepared was Love Canal or a toxic dump we’d be standing right along side these gentlemen,” Hevier said. “But instead, these gentlemen … are taking Camillus on a kamikaze mission to serve their political grandstanding.
